Bandwidth Schedules

Overview

MyClient offers the ability to schedule changes to a customer's bandwidth. This allows you to reduce the customer's upload speed during business hours, so that long-running backup tasks do not impede the customer's ordinary business activities.

Permissions

For MyClient Basic, the Bandwidth Schedules feature is available.

For MyCLient Small Business and MyClient Enterprise, the Bandwidth Schedules feature is available to all staff and reseller operators who

  • have either Technician or Billing permission
  • are in a Permission Group with the "Bandwidth Schedule Changes" option enabled and at least one of the "Bandwidth Increase" or "Bandwidth Decrease" options enabled

Scheduling Bandwidth Changes

From a Customer Detail page, click the "manage backup account settings" link, then choose the Schedules tab from the top bar.

Figure 1. Backup Account Settings dialog

From this dialog, you can add and remove scheduled bandwidth changes.

If you are using MyClient Small Business or MyClient Enterprise and are in a Permission Group which has only one of the "Bandwidth Increase" or "Bandwidth Decrease" options available, you will only be able to increase or decrease respectively the bandwidth from its current value.

Bandwidth changes can be scheduled for

  • every day, at a certain time of day; or
  • one day every week, at a certain time of day; or
  • one day every month, at a certain time of day

At the time of writing, MyClient applies these bandwidth changes in its local timezone (as configured via the System Settings page > System Behaviour > Internationalization > "Timezone" option). If your customers in MyClient are spread between many timezones or if for some reason MyClient's interface timezone is not configured to match the customer's timezone, then this option may schedule bandwidth changes at an unexpected time. A future update to MyClient will anchor these changes to the customer's timezone instead of MyClient's timezone.
